Thursday November 1st

Halloween has come and gone, but the candy/sugar high lingers on!
The day started off with Emma and I heading over to Daniel's class party. It was officially "Fall Treat Day" (heaven forbid someone should actually think we celebrated Halloween!) The kids were asked to come to school dressed as their favorite character from a book. They had "Witches Brew" (apple juice and ginger ale) and cupcakes that they got to decorate themselves (and a good portion of the lunch room) with candy bats, pumpkins and other decorations. After lunch we headed back to the classroom to read a book called
"The Vanishing Pumpkin". The kids all went home with treat bags that were so full of loot that they couldn't close! I'm one of the room mothers for Daniel's class this year. Thats why we went to his party, but we did donate to the big kids parties as well.
Then it was time to go home and Trick or Treat!
The kids usually dress in a theme and this year was no different.
This years theme was America. Katie was the Statue of Liberty. Matthew went as George W. Bush. Daniel was a dashing Uncle Sam and Emily was the U.S. Capitol (She had this cute little hat with a flag sticking out of it to represent the dome of the capitol but she didn't want to wear it very long so she kept getting mistaken for the White House!) They were only out for about 45 minutes but we now have enough candy to last us until next year!
Hope your Halloween was fun and safe!
Sunday November 4th

Happy Birthday to Julie & Brad Reckamp!
Doug's Sister Julie and his Brother Brad were born on the same day but are not twins. Julie was born exactly three years after Brad. Happy Birthday you two!

Yesterday was the USS OKLAHOMA CITY Holiday party. They guys have been so busy (and will continue to be for some time!) That we had to have all our holiday partys in one. We celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years (and every other holiday in between). We all had a great time, had wonderful food, we drank, we danced (some of us) and were in the best of company!
Now I just have to start packing for our upcoming trip to Florida. We're heading down to Jacksonville for the
wedding of Doug's brother Brad and his lovely fiance Karen. Yes there will now be ANOTHER Karen Reckamp! The more the better!

Thursday November 15th

We've had a very exciting and action packed week in Florida!
There's so much to say so let me jump right in! We headed down to Jacksonville to go to Doug's brother Brad's wedding (actually it was
Brad and Karen's wedding) First there was all the running around to do, picking up the Tuxes, heading to the drug store for the pair of emergency panty hose, and stocking up on lots of caffiene to keep us (the adults) going!
The celebration started with the Bachlor/Bachlorette Parties. The particulars about each party will be kept secret to protect the innocent (or not so innocent) but we all had a great night. A Big Thank You to Doug's sister Julie who arranged for a babysitter so we could each attend the parties!
The rehearsal at the church went smoothly and the dinner after was great. Daniel had so much fun that he actually fell asleep at the table in the middle of the party!
Next came the wedding itself. This is where the one thing that went wrong comes into play. It seems when I was busy packing everyones matching outfits I forgot to pack my own dress for the wedding. It was about three hours before the wedding when I realized my dress was still hanging on my closet door in Virginia!  It was Julie to the rescue again! She took me to a local shop and I was able to find a dress I liked (on sale even!) and we all made it to the church on time!
Karen was gorgeous, Brad was dashing, and the rest of us didn't look too bad either! The ceremony was beautiful and went off without a hitch! Daniel did a great job as the ring bearer and didn't drop the ring pillow even once!
The reception after at the hotel was nonstop fun! There was great music and wonderful food. Doug's "Best Man" toast was a hit and Matthew gained himself the reputaion as the best dancer in the family! The wedding cake was amazing and Brad had a Grooms cake that looked like a Manatee. It was made from red velvet cake so that when he cut into it it looked as though it had been cut by a boat propeller! Yum!
The evening was capped off by a large number of the family doing the traditional
"Reckamp Family Shark Bait Swim". For those of you who may not understand let me explain. It has become a tradition after Florida Reckamp family gatherings to head down to the beach sometime after midnight (sharks tend to feed after dark), jump into the freezing Atlantic ocean and swim several hundred yards out to a bouy marker and back. Apparently when you get beyond the breakers there is a kind of plankton that glows as you swim through it that is supposed to be beautiful.I say "apparently" and "supposed" because I am not one of the insane people who partake in this strange dangerous ritual. I am a towel girl who waits on the beach and hands out towels to the swimmers as they return to ward off hypothermia! Happily once again the same number of people who went into the water came out!
It was great to see so many friends and family and to even make some new ones! Heidi & Alex, we'll see you in Holland! I look forward to keeping in touch with everyone after we depart for parts unknown!
